Introducing the Black Rider Podcast

There’s a place between two stands of trees where the grass grows uphill

It’s been our intention to do a podcast from the very first planning sessions of Black Rider Press two and a half years ago. We ummed and ahhhed about underlying thematic sequences, musical styles, formats, spoken word elements, DJs, bands and context. Maybe be like the mnmlssg dudes, but from a different angle, with a different auxilary. And then we just sorta sat on the idea for a while because it was getting too big (ie. before we knew it, we were talking about a blkrdr record label. geez louise).

and the old revolutionary road breaks off into shadows

We’ve finally got the right path for these mixtapes – partner with various awesome DJs we’ve been listening to all along and compile a mix of ambience and deep spacey drones with a spoken word intro and outro. ‘Cause fact of the matter is, we read a lot and we listen to a lot of music… and we know you do too.

And I won’t tell you where it is, so why do I tell you
anything? Because you still listen, because in times like these
to have you listen at all, it’s necessary
to talk about trees.
The Black Rider podcast is our soundtrack – whether to our nightly reading or to our bleary-eyed dawn bus ride to work. It’s our deep space mix. There’s no plan as to how frequent these’ll come. They’ll probably be monthly, but maybe less, or maybe more. First edition is by Melbourne’s Mattress Grave, aka Black Rider poet and author Shane Jesse Christmass.
